Yeah, that guy.

Oh yeah, and Spankrock performed to cap it off. There were helicopters taking pictures of the throng amassed outside of Family Business, blocking traffic and illuminated by powerfully cinematic exterior lighting. Its just too bad that most people weren’t dancing…

I swear there are more sketches than this… I’m going to go looking for them.

After sketching at Family Business the week before, I was challenged to do it again– but in a different medium. So I (mostly) switched over from what I drew with as a six year old (crayons) to what I drew with as a twelve year old (microns) and as an eighteen year old (graphite.) It got messy. I liked it. It could get messier. I use crayons because I like the quality of line, the stage-lighty color, and that no one’s blouse gets hurt when I take a crayon up it accidentally. A year ago in Australia, I’d paint with feathers, and use inkwells on bumpy bus rides. I wasn’t afraid of ruining my (or anyone else’s) clothes then, but… well… look out, people.

I have a confession to make. I hardly drew Prayertown while I was there. I began sketching around 7, no band in sight, only people. And this was so fascinating, I just kept on this track, drawing people while I was talking to them. So, not really a show sketch at all, I guess.

Maurizio Cattelan asked me to sketch at his gallery, after seeing me draw at 285 Kent. (I knew there was a reason that club features both my last name, and my lucky number.) I’m fully converted now– expect to see a lot more people scenes with the show sketches… maybe I’ll even go into portraiture…
